To run Adobe AIR applications, it requires Adobe AIR Runtime. You can get the latest version of the Adobe AIR Runtime here (http://get.adobe.com/air)

All Adobe AIR application installation file, will have the file extension “.air”. If you have the Adobe AIR Runtime installed already in the machine, then it shows the valid application executable as show below

If the Adobe AIR is not installed then your OS does not know which application it has to use to run adobe air application. So to run adobe air application you must have the Adobe AIR Runtime installed.

Let’s say you have already installed the Adobe AIR runtime and want to install the Adobe AIR application. (For example “TourDeFlex.air”)
Once you click on the installation file, it prompts with the series of wizard to complete the installation. Suppose if you don’t have necessary authorization to install the Adobe AIR application in your machine, then am going to tell you other way how you can able to successfully run your adobe air application.

To create installation package, first we should have necessary permission to install the adobe air application. Once the installation is complete, we will create the package and you can distribute the package files to other users to run the application without the installation wizard.

In this example, we will install the Adobe’s “TourDeFlex.air” application.

Step 1: Download the “TourDeFlex.air” from here (http://download.macromedia.com/pub/developer/air/TourDeFlex.air)

Step 2: After downloading, click on the file to install.

Step 3: Installation wizard starts

 

Step 4: Click on “Install”.

Step 5: Click on “Continue”.

Step 5: Installation “Starts” and it launches the application.  

Step 6: Next step is to create the package. Go to the installation folder (we have installed in the C:\Program Files)

Step 7:  TourDeFlex folder contains the following files. To run this application these files are required.

Step 8:  Create the “TourDeFlex.rar” or “TourDeFlex.zip” package file. This file you can send it to others. They just need to extract and click on the “TourDeFlex.exe” to run the application.

Note: You must have installed Adobe AIR runtime to run this application.

Step 9: Final package file is ready for the distribution.

I have tried the same procedure for other adobe air applications also. I did not encounter any issues. I do not know whether this approach is feasible for all the Adobe AIR applications. So I advise take your decision to distribute where you think, it might help you to resolve the issue.

You can use this packaged files as “Portable Application”. It means you can put the packaged files in the “External Device” like Pen Drive, External Hard drive. Without the installation in other system, you can directly run the application.
